About Nigel

"I grew up on the land, in a rural district called Burrandana located in the south-eastern Riverina, from which I entered Canberra School of Art.

I studied there for three years. I furthered my studies at Prahran College of Arts, Melbourne and Phillip Institute, Latrobe University, before being offered a place at the Victorian College of the Arts, Melbourne University, where I completed my post-Graduate Diploma of Fine Arts. At that time, this was the highest degree in Fine Arts being offered nationally.

I have been living for many years in regional New South Wales working on the land, teaching and painting for exhibitions in relation to Myth within Landscape.

"It has been said that men cannot feel really at home in this landscape until they have transformed the natural shapes around them by infusing them with Myth; creating heroes and sacred places." (Haese, Rebels and Precursors, 1981)

This theme is integral to my work as an Artist living in Regional New South Wales. I have continuously pursued my painting, even in the most difficult circumstances. Through my painting I can tell a story of the Australian landscape.

Following this concept I exhibited 22 recent works at the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery, 4 May to 18 June, 2007.

Aligned with this exhibition I was given the opportunity to be the Inaugural Artist-in-Residence. I relocated my studio to the Regional Gallery where I demonstrated working practices and painting techniques to an enthusiastic public.
